Minnesota Forest Industries Wins 'Telly Award' for it's 'Trees Absorb Carbon' TV Commecial

Duluth, MN – December 2024 – Minnesota Forest Industries (MFI), an association representing the state’s major forest products companies, has been awarded a prestigious Telly Award for a TV commercial it created in partnership with Hubbard Broadcasting.

Titled “Trees Absorb Carbon, Forest Products Store It,” the 30-second ad received a Silver Telly Award in the category of “Public Service & PSA – Local TV.” The Telly Awards honor excellence in video and television across all screens and receive over 13,000 entries globally.

The MFI spot features a scientist exclaiming “Eureka!” as she discovers “a solar-powered machine that removes carbon from the Earth’s atmosphere and transforms it into items humans use every day. A tree!”

Executive Producer Rick Horton of Minnesota Forest Industries says,

“We are proud to win this award for showcasing how Minnesota’s sustainably managed forests absorb carbon and store it in forest products people use every day. Climate change has been described as a threat to human lives and livelihoods. By properly managing our forests we can increase the rate of carbon absorption, reduce emissions from wildfire and decomposition, and store more in trees and products. Forest products can also substitute for fossil-fuel intensive materials, further reducing atmospheric carbon.”

Horton, who served as executive producer of the TV spot, lauded the Hubbard Broadcasting team for its good work: Producer Karin Newhouse, Editor Nick Tieri and Photographer Kyle McManus, along with actress Nicole Weber.

Minnesota Forest Industries members include: Bell Lumber & Pole Company; Hedstrom Lumber Company; Louisiana Pacific Corp.; Packaging Corporation of America; PotlatchDeltic; Sappi North America; Savanna Pallets; UPM Blandin Paper Mill; and West Fraser.
